Cosmopolitan's beauty director Julee Wilson has transitioned to an editor at large role at the outlet. In her new role she will move away from the day-to-day operations of the Beauty department but will remain one of the faces of Cosmopolitan beauty in a part-time basis. Wilson has been at Cosmo since 2020 and before that spent four years at Essence, most recently as global beauty director overseeing fashion and beauty across print and digital.
InStyle has hired a writer and an editor on the commerce beat:
- Alexis Gaskin has joined the site as a commerce writer. She was previously a full-time freelance writer, covering various verticals in beauty, news, culture, and fashion for WWD, Marie Claire, and Glamour.
- Mary Honkus is the new commerce editor at InStyle. She was previously an associate beauty editor at Group Nine Media and Makeup.com, Skincare.com, and Beauty Magazine. Prior to that, Honkus worked for People and Real Simple.
The Boston Globe has announced two new hires at its Washington, D.C., bureau:
- Tal Kopan will join the bureau on June 27 as deputy bureau chief. She was most recently a Washington correspondent and senior political reporter at the san Francisco Chronicle, and before that served as political reporter at CNN.
- Lissandra Villa will join the Washington Bureau on July 7 as a national political correspondent. She comes to The Globe from BuzzFeed, where she was a political reporter since June 2021. Prior to that, Villa was a staff writer at TIME magazine.
Zeina Karam has been named deputy news director for Europe at The Associated Press. In her new roles, she will focus on elevating AP’s coverage of major stories such as the war in Ukraine, the future of Putin’s Russia and the wider European project, the cost-of-living crisis, migration, and the impact of climate change on the region. She will relocate to London and take up her duties in the coming months. Karam was most recently the news director for Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, and has been at the AP since 1996.
Rachel Wilkerson Miller is the new editor in chief for the Conde Nast wellness title, SELF, where she will develop and create content across digital, video, and social, reporting directly to Anna Wintour. Wilkerson Miller comes to the brand from Vox, where she served as senior editor for Vox.com.
The Chicago Reader has promoted Salem Collo-Julin from culture editor to managing editor. A veteran of the Reader since 2019, Collo-Julin started as a listings coordinator before becoming the culture editor in 2021.
Zach Wichter is departing Bankrate.com and joining USA TODAY as a travel reporter. Before Bankrate.com, where he served as a mortgage reporter, Wichter worked on the New York Times' business desk, where he won a Loeb Award for breaking news. He has also worked with The Points Guy, Dateline NBC, and New York 1.
PEOPLE has promoted Nicholas Rice to associate editor across PEOPLE.com. In his new role, he will write across all topics including movies, music, and health. Rice will also assists with work edits for other writers. Rice was previously a digital news Writer/reporter at the outlet and has been on staff since 2020, when he joined as an intern.
Melissa Daniels is the new senior reporter at Modern Retail. She was most recently a digital media consultant and communications manager for Life to Rise, a nonprofit in Palm desert, California. Before that, Daniels worked for USA Today as a business reporter covering the local economy of Coachella Valley in California.
BuzzFeed reporter Pranav Dixit has relocated to Silicon Valley from new Delhi, India. He is a technology reporter covering the intersection of tech and culture in India, and has been a reporter at the site since 2016. Dixit is also a 2022 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.
Julian Cannon has joined Digiday as a reporter covering marketing. He was previously an entertainment reporter and social media manager at The Knockturnal, and before that spent 11 years freelancing for Alternativemindz, where he covered pop culture, video games ,comics, and more.
Bloomberg News has announced several staff updates across several bureaus:
- Kasia Klimasinska has been promoted to senior editor on the Markets Team, working on the Pulse survey and steering the markets blog during the U.S. hours. She was most recently leading a team of breaking news reporters and editors, covering the White House, Congress, politics and policy in Washington. Klimasinska has been at Bloomberg for 16 years.
- Patpicha Tanakasempipat has joined the news service as a reporter covering business and politics in Thailand. She spent the past six years at Reuters in Bangkok reporting on Thai politics, technology, and commodities, with a focus on Thailand and Southeast Asia.
- Yuko Takeo has been promoted to editor on the Asia economy desk at Bloomberg News in Tokyo. She was previously an economy reporter covering Japan’s Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Japan since 2017. Takeo has been at Bloomberg since 2013.
Sam Ogozalek has joined the Tampa Bay Times via Report for America, covering healthcare and mental health. Previously, he covered the COVID-19 pandemic in South Carolina, focusing on enterprise for The Island Packet. He has also interned for Tampa Bay Times in the past, as well as Buffalo News and Naples Daily News.
Elena Cavender is Mashable's newest tech reporter. She joins Mashable after freelancing for online newspaper the Piedmont Exedra. She has also served as a news reporter for KALX-FM and the Daily Clog, both run by the University of California, Berkeley.
The Austin Business Journal has hired Cody Baird to cover real estate. He joins from the Victoria Advocate in South Texas, where he focused on business and agriculture. Before that, he worked at Insite Brazos Valley Magazine, and served as an air traffic controller in the US Air Force.
Laurel Thrailkill has joined the Birmingham Business Journal as a health, tech, and innovation reporter. Most recently, she served as a multimedia journalist for the Hattiesburg American and Clarion Leger in Mississippi, where she covered breaking news, city projects, up-and-coming businesses, and more.
Sarah Mimms recently announced her move to NBC News Digital . Serving as a politics editor, she remains based in Washington, DC. She comes to NBC from BuzzFeed News, where she served as a politics reporter and before that, the DC editor.
The Wall Street Journal has added Emil Lendof and Jared Diamond to its talent team, which will work to create and meet goals for hiring, retention, diversity, and performance. Lendof will focus on the Video & Audio, Visuals and Live Journalism groups, and most recently served as the lead photo editor for WSJ's finance department. Diamond will focus on the Features, Life & Work, Publishing, Platforms, Print, and new formats teams. A long time member of WSJ, Diamond joined as a sports reporting assistant in 2011, and has been the Journal's national baseball writer since 2017.
Law360 has hired Brent Godwin as its newest reporter. Godwin joins from the Jacksonville Business Journal, where he has covered commercial and residential real estate in the Jacksonville area. Prior to that, he was an editor and reporter for the Birmingham Business Journal.
CBS News has promoted Caitlin Huey-Burns to political correspondent, upped from political reporter. She will continue to be based in Washington, D.C. Huey-Burns has been at CBS News since 2018 and joined the staff as a political reporter for the streaming network, and played a key role in CBS News coverage of the 2020 presidential campaign. Before that, she was a reporter for RealClearPolitics, where she covered national politics and Capitol Hill.
ABC News has brought on Michela Moscufo as a digital multimedia reporter. She will also freelance for the show integration team. Previously, she freelanced and interned for NBC News, and contributed to Forbes.
WFXG-TV, the Fox station in Augusta, Georgia, has promoted Abby Bradshaw to weekend anchor. She is on the anchor desk at 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, along with local reporting during the week. Bradshaw initially joined the team in August 2020 as a multimedia journalist, and before that worked as a producer at WRBL-TV in Georgia.
Lizzie Baumgartner has returned to WBBM 780-AM in Chicago as managing editor of podcasts. She is a former assistant producer in the newsroom at WBBM 780-AM, and most recently has worked as audio production coordinator for Audacy’s alternative rock and country stations.
Cumulus Media has hired longtime Chicago radio personality Steve Cochran to host mornings at WLS-AM radio. He started June 15 and is on-air 5:30 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. Cochran, 61, former morning host at Nexstar Media news/talk WGN 720-AM.
